Are you or do you work with an individual who needs text materials in different formats? The Alaska Center of Accessible Media provides information and resources to Alaskan schools and families to help meet the needs of individuals with many types of print disabilities. Some examples of materials we can provide to qualifying students are: digital ebooks, audiobooks, Braille books and large print books. Our organization has access to thousands of materials, including textbooks and literature from every genre.

Digital books are one of the more accessible formats. Digital books can be downloaded to most computers and portable devices. These books allow for easy navigation by page or chapter, as well as the text size, background color and font to all be changed to meet an individual’s needs. To access this type of book, follow these three easy steps:

Step 1
After you’ve identify the student or students, and be sure to document that they are eligible for accessible materials. Once you’ve done that, go to Bookshare.org and search for the book or books you need.
